| What is Midi Karaoke, KAR and KA2 ? |
KAR file is standard midi file with lyrics embedded. It is the most popular type of midi karaoke files. You can find them almost everywhere over the Internet. A2 supports playback of KAR and is capable of displaying KAR lyrics in A2's Karaoke Emulator. KA2 is another midi karaoke format developed by A2. With A2's Lyrics Editor, synchronized lyrics can be embedded into a copy of a standard Midi file (mid or kar) and the the copied file is saved as KA2 - A2 Midi Karaoke File format. |
| How to embed lyrics into MP3/OGG/MIDI/KAR ? |
A2 allows you to embed lyrics into MP3, OGG, MIDI and KAR files. You can create and edit the embedded lyrics by A2's Lyrics Editor. The media file with embedded lyrics is playable by A2 as well as other players but lyrics would only be displayed in A2's Karaoke Emulator. |
There are 2 ways to embed lyrics into MP3/OGG/MIDI/KAR file:
One way is to load both the media file and the lyrics file into A2's Lyrics Editor. The embedding command is under the "File" menu and is self-explanatory.
Another way is through the "Media File Settings Editor" in the Playlist. Highlight the media file in the playlist, then click the "Media File Settings Editor" button. In the "Lyrics" page of the Editor, browse to the lyrics file that you want to embed, then select "Embed lyrics into MP3/Ogg/Midi files" and press the "Confirm" button. |

| Lyrics Display Styles |
As mentioned earlier, A2 is capable to emulate real karaoke lyrics display style. There are several styles to lead the singer, A2 uses the word-by-word coloring method which most karaoke producers adopt and lyrics will be displayed in line pairs with different user-defined colors showing focused line and focused words/syllables. |
Please note that A2 can display lyrics in another style by disabling "Progress Rate". If "Progress Rate" is not applied, the whole word will be filled in the color of Focused Word immediately once the time set for the word is reached. "Progress Rate" can be set through the "Lyrics Options" in the Main popup menu or the popup menu of A2 Theatre (Karaoke Emulator)
Please also note that lyrics can be displayed line by line without word-by-word coloring by NOT applying any "Word Time Tag <mm:ss.xx>" in the lyrics during lyrics editing.
*Note: A new tutorial is written to teach user how to produce professional Enhanced LRC lyrics file using the new features of "Lyrics Editor" for version 2.40 or higher. |
Step 1. Prepare the lyrics file in TXT formatUse notepad or any text editor to enter the lyrics lines and save it as ordinary text (.txt) file, or you may just download ready made lyrics from the Internet. Please also note that A2's Lyrics Editor also allows you to enter new lyrics from scratch. |
Step 2. Loading both the lyrics file and media file into Lyrics Editor
(click here to see a screen shot)
- Open A2 Media Player,
- Open the Lyrics Editor using the "Lyrics Sync Editor" button on the Main panel or from the Main popup menu,
- Load the lyrics text file as prepared from Step 1,
- Load the audio file into the Lyrics Editor using the "LOAD" button.
Step 3. Insert "Time Tags" into Lyrics |
When a new text file is loaded into the Lyrics Editor, A2 automatically inserts a "Line Time Tag [mm:ss.xx]" to every line of the lyrics with 5 seconds interval. Press [F7] or use the popup menu of the Editor to insert a new line, and [Ctrl Del] to delete a line. If you want to break a line into 2 lines, the steps are as follows:
- Select the line you want to break,
- Highlight the portion you want to break in the editing box,
- Press [Ctrl X] to cut the portion from the line,
- Press [F7] to insert a new "Line Time Tag [mm:ss.xx]",
- Press [Ctrl V] to paste the portion onto the new line through the editing box.
Note: If you don't want to display lyrics with word-by-word-coloring, DON'T insert any "Word Time Tag <mm:ss.xx>" into your lyrics.
If you want to further break a line into words/syllables, set the Lyrics Editor to view lyrics by words/syllables ("View by Word") through the main menu or the pupup menu of the Editor, and then
- Select the line you want to break,
- Highlight the words you want to break in the editing box,
- Press [Ctrl X] to cut the words from the line,
- Press [F8] or use the popup menu of the Editor to insert a new "Word Time Tag <mm:ss.xx>",
- Press [Ctrl V] to paste the words onto the new line through the editing box.
If possible, insert an empty "Word Time Tag <mm:ss.xx>" in the beginning of a line just after the "Line Time Tag [mm:ss.xx]" with 0.2 - 0.5 second difference if you want to signal the singer by changing the color of the line before the first word starts.
An empty "Word Time Tag <mm:ss.xx>" MUST be inserted at the end of a line to signal the program when to stop coloring of the last word.
Add a new "Line Time Tag [mm:ss.xx]" to where you want to show information (e.g. singer's and composer's name). DON'T insert any "Word Time Tag <mm:ss.xx>" at the end of this line if it is not a lyrics line.
Add empty lines after a lyrics/information line if you want to remove any displayed lyrics from the Karaoke screen after a certain interval.
Add empty lines before a lyrics/information line if you want to move the next line to the position of the top/bottom display line.
If possible, add an empty line [00:00.50 - 00:02.00] as the first line of the lyrics for better performance when the lyrics starts.
DON'T add any empty lines at the end of the lyrics if you want the last lyrics/information line to stay on the Karaoke screen until the media file is finished.
Learn from example: My Heart Will Go On - Love Theme from "Titanic" (View by Line / View by Word) or download its LRC file to try.
Step 4. Synchronize the Lyrics with Music |
- There are 3 modes in lyrics editing:
Lyrics Editing Mode: for user to edit lyrics text in the lyrics editing box or to edit time in the time editing box.
Time Testing Mode: for user to test the timing of lyrics when the media file is playing. In this mode, playing position can be set by dragging the time track button or clicking on any lines.
Time Editing Mode: for user to set the current media time as the time for the highlighted time tag automatically by clicking the mouse on the line.
Before starting the synchronization process, simply click the "PLAY" button to test run and you will see music starts playing with a dark blue highlighted bar moves along which indicates that you are in the "Time Testing Mode".
Now press [F12] (or use the "Mode" options in the Main Menu, or select "Time Editing Mode" from the popup menu) to switch the Editor to "Time Editing Mode". When you are ready, click the "PLAY" button to start playing again.
While playing, listen and pay attention to the master vocal. All you have to do is to follow the master vocal and click the left mouse button right on the word or line to synchronize with the vocal.
Keep doing this till the end of the song or you may at any time click the "PAUSE" button to pause the process or resume from where you paused when you are ready again. Lyrics text can be edited when the media is paused.
Press [F11] (or use the "Mode" options in the Main Menu, or select "Time Testing Mode" from the popup menu) to switch the Editor to "Time Testing Mode" if you think you are out of synchronization or you just want to have an instant preview. Press the "PLAY" button or drag the time track button to see and hear how well you have done the job. In "Time Testing Mode", playing position can also be set by clicking on any lines.
You can edit the time in the time tag manually in "Lyrics Editing Mode" when the media file is NOT playing.
Set the Editor to "View by Line" if you want to copy, paste and delete lyrics lines. [Ctrl V] pastes a copied line with the time in all the "Word Time Tags <mm:ss.xx>" in the line unchanged, while [Ctrl B] pastes a copied line with the time in all the "Word Time Tags <mm:ss.xx>" in the line re-adjusted according to the time in the "Line Time Tag [mm:ss.xx]".
Fill in lyrics information such as Title, Artist, Author, Album, Enter by and Remarks if required when lyrics synchronization is finished.
Step 5. Saving the Lyrics File |
There are 2 ways to save lyrics:

| How to use LRC downloaded from other sources ? |
If you have downloaded some LRC files from other sources over the Internet, you can use them directly with A2's Karaoke Emulator by attaching the LRC file to the media file using the "Media file Settings Editor". If you find that the lyrics in the LRC is out of synchronization, you can re-synchronize the lyrics with A2's Lyrics Editor. |
| Synchronization & Operation Tips |
During the synchronization process, how precisely you click the mouse determines how accurate is the synchronization.
It would be an advantage if you know the song. It is advisable to practice with a song that contains master vocal and when you get used to the synchronization process, then try the titles without master vocal. Practice makes perfect!
| Burn your media files into a CDR Disc and play with A2 |
You may add audio (Audio CD, MP3, OGG, WMA, WAV, MID, KAR, KA2), video (DVD, VCD, MPG, AVI, SWF) and image (BMP, JPG, PNG) files to the same playlist, and store the playlist and all the media files including attachments into the same folder, and then write all of them to a CDR Disc. To playback, load the playlist from the CDROM to A2, and you are ready to sing ! (Please also read on how to create Auto Path Playlist).
